New reference material for higher-molecular-weight PAHs at workplaces (Focus on IFA´s work Nr. 0451)

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of substances found in various occupational settings. Some PAHs are known to be mutagenic and carcinogenic. Analytical methods, which have been established for decades, often focus on a group of substances established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or an individual lead component. The reference material for higher-molecular-weight PAHs now developed at the IFA is intended to pave the way for the expansion of existing methods by means of accompanying quality assurance through proficiency tests. Sheet 451 in the “Focus on IFA`s work” series presents the development of the reference material and initial results from the new proficiency test for higher-molecular-weight PAHs.
