Driver’s cabs with berths, rooftop sleepers and rest areas in coaches

Freight and passenger transport vehicles are often equipped with berths that allow drivers to spend their breaks and rest periods in the vehicles. For vehicles with an EC type approval, there are no specifications in road traffic law regarding the design of berths.

When procuring or providing a vehicle, a company owner must ensure that such berths can also be accessed and used during breaks and rest periods.

This DGUV Regel specifies the contents of DGUV Vorschrift 70 and 71, “Vehicles”, describes technical specifications and compiles the experience of the accident insurance institutions' prevention work applicable to the construction, equipping and operation of driver's cabs with berths, roof sleeping cabins and rest areas in buses and coaches.
